2019 Nurse Leader of the Year
It was delightful to see many of you at our recent WONL conference!! At the conference, April Hansen, RN, MSN, Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for Aya Healthcare, was awarded the WONL 2019 Nurse Leader of the Year award.
Hansen has demonstrated considerable service to WONL through her board of director position, as well as committee service with both finance and membership. She helped to drive the name change process from WONE to WONL in 2018, as part of her membership committee contributions, and also completed the organization’s most recent membership analysis to identify areas of representation gaps across the state and within the continuum of care. Hansen has accepted the role of WONL membership chairperson.
Hansen has made significant contributions to the nursing profession and health care field, both in Wisconsin and on a national level. She demonstrates compassion for patients, families and colleagues, and serves as a role model, mentor, and coach to others in her organization and community.
Hansen served on the Wisconsin Nurses Association’s Public Policy Committee, where she actively engaged with Senators Tammy Baldwin and Ron Johnson, as well as with local legislators, to provide education on nursing and health care infrastructure initiatives. In July 2018, she was named to Becker’s Hospital Review List of “Rising Stars: 90 Healthcare Leaders Under 40.” Hansen has presented at health care conferences nationally and has been a panel speaker on app-based technology in staffing and virtual reality training technology.
“In my nearly 20 years in health care workforce and labor management, I cannot recall meeting anyone who rivals her intellect, thirst for continued growth and development, command of clinical practice, commitment to advancing the nursing profession, and creative entrepreneur.” Darin Taylor, Vice-President – Workforce Solutions at Aya Healthcare.
Kudos to April for her dedication and passion for the nursing profession!!
