RN License Renewal/ RN Survey Begins January 10, 2024

On behalf of WONL, here are a few tips to navigate through the process:

Please read this email in its entirety as it contains important information regarding your Wisconsin professional credential.

This is a notice that your Registered Nurse credential renewal period has opened. You can renew your license through Thursday, February 29, 2024. You are among the 125,000 Wisconsin license holders scheduled to renew their licenses in January and February 2024 so it is critical that you begin your renewal process as soon as possible to avoid any lapses in the validity of your credential.

If you currently hold a license in Wisconsin, an account has been created for you in our new licensing platform at license.wi.gov

DO NOT register for a new account

First-Time Logging into LicensE:

  • From the landing page, click “Forgot/Change Password?”
  • Enter your username. Your username is
  • Complete the process by clicking the “Change or Reset Password” button. The password reset information will be sent to your account’s email address.
  • Reset your password.

Returning LicensE Users:

  • If you have logged into LicensE before, log-in with your username and password and proceed to “Renew My License”.

Renewal:

  • Once you have logged into your LicensE account, click “Renew My License”.
  • Select the credential to renew and complete all steps in the renewal process.  
  • You are required to complete the Nurse Survey for the Department of Workforce Development before you can submit your renewal. To view results from previous survey’s go to Nurse Survey Review.
  • You will receive a confirmation email once your license is renewed.

Changing of Email Address:

If you would like to change your email address, please submit a support ticket by clicking “Request Support” in the blue banner on the top of this page. Provide your name, date of birth, and the last 4 digits of your SSN in order to verify your identity and be sure to include the new email address. Support tickets are answered within 10 calendar days of receipt.

Informational Webinars

New this renewal we will be offering several informational webinars. These presentations will be a high-level overview of how-to login to LicensE, troubleshoot basic login issues, request name and address changes and a walkthrough of the nurse renewal and survey. The webinars will be available soon and the schedule can be found on the Registered Nurses Professions page of the DSPS website. Preregistration will be required to attend.

Helpful Hints

  • If you are having difficulty logging in to LicensE and have a Hotmail, MSN or wi.rr email address, please consider using a different email address by requesting a change using the method described above.
  • If you are using a mobile device to complete your renewal, turn your device horizontally to see the entire screen.
  • If you are currently outside the United States and are not able to login please Request Support and note the country from which you are attempting to access the platform.
  • If you submit your renewal application and complete the associated fee payment by 11:59pm on the final day of the renewal period (2/29/2024), your license will remain valid until an adjudication has been made per Wis. Admin. Code

Document Uploads

  • Only upload Form 2254 if you have any new convictions or pending charges since your last renewal or initial licensure if this is your first renewal.
  • When documents are uploaded to your renewal application, it triggers a manual review of your application and could cause a delay in your renewal.

Receipt for Payment

  • When you pay for your license, you will receive an email at the email address we have on file. This email is your receipt, please keep for your records.

To Obtain a Copy of Your License

  • Visit LicensE. Click ‘My Approved Licenses.’ Click carrot under ‘Action,’ and select ‘View Certificates.’
    • You have the option to download and print a Wallet Credential or Wall Certificates.

Please note: If you are having any difficulties, please visit License.wi.gov and click ‘Request Support’. Provide complete contact information and a detailed description of the issue you’re experiencing. Include your date of birth and the last 4 digits of your SSN so that we can verify your identity.
